Breaking: AWS Announces Enterprise AI Overhaul at April 28 Event

AWS CEO Matt Garman, SVP of Applied AI Colleen Aubrey, and CMO Julia White took the stage alongside OpenAI leaders on April 28 to unveil a sweeping transformation of the company's AI portfolio. The announcements centered on two flagship products: a desktop version of the Amazon Quick AI assistant and a four-pronged expansion of Amazon Connect into agentic AI solutions.

“This is a paradigm shift in how businesses will integrate AI into daily operations,” Garman said. “We’re moving beyond chatbots into autonomous agents that plan, hire, and serve customers.”

Amazon Quick Desktop App: No Browser Required

The new Amazon Quick desktop app (now in Preview) connects directly to local files, calendar, and communications without opening a web browser. Users can sign up using personal email, Google, Apple, GitHub, or Amazon credentials — no AWS account required.

Quick can now generate polished documents, presentations, infographics, and images directly from the chat interface. Native integrations expand to include Google Workspace, Zoom, Airtable, Dropbox, and Microsoft Teams. A Build custom apps capability (Preview) lets users create intelligent apps, dashboards, and web pages using natural language.

Amazon Connect Splits Into Four Agentic AI Solutions

Amazon Connect has evolved from a single product into a suite of four specialized offerings. Amazon Connect Decisions is a supply chain planning tool combining 30 years of Amazon operational science with 25+ specialized supply chain tools.

Amazon Connect Talent (Preview) delivers AI-led interviews, science-backed assessments, and consistent evaluation for scaled hiring. Amazon Connect Customer — formerly the basic Connect product — now personalizes experiences across voice, chat, and digital channels with enhanced configuration.

“These solutions are designed to plug into existing workflows and let AI handle the heavy lifting,” said Colleen Aubrey. “Talent acquisition, supply chain, customer service — each gets a dedicated agent.”

Background

AWS has been rapidly expanding its agentic AI capabilities since late 2025. The partnership with OpenAI, deepened at this event, brings advanced generative models to the enterprise stack. The April 28 event marked the first time AWS positioned Amazon Quick as an enterprise-wide AI assistant rather than a simple productivity tool.

The company is competing with Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini for workplace AI dominance. The new desktop app and no-AWS-account requirement aim to lower barriers for small and medium businesses.

What This Means

Businesses can now deploy AI agents for supply chain planning, hiring, and customer service without extensive coding. The desktop app signals AWS’s intent to own the endpoint interface, not just the cloud backend.

“This is AWS’s answer to the question of how AI moves from chat window to business process,” an industry analyst said. “The four Connect solutions fragment the market into specific verticals — a smarter play than a one-size-fits-all assistant.”

The announcements are immediately available for preview, with general availability expected in the coming months. Developers can test the new Quick features starting today.
